“Use Signal”: With this tweet, Elon Musk unintentionally leapfrogged the action of another company.

While the Tesla boss wanted to encourage a large number of people to use the Signal messaging application, some thought he was talking about another company.

In two short words, Elon Musk made jump of 527% the share of the company Signal Advance, last Thursday, then of 91% the following day.
Tesla‘s boss was not talking about this company, but about the messaging service Signal, one of WhatsApp’s main competitors, reports the CNBC channel.

Originally, Elon Musk drew this tweet to encourage the exodus of WhatsApp users to Signal.

The reason? In the new WhatsApp terms of use, it is specified that user data can now be shared with other group services such as Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. In response to this change in policy, Tesla’s CEO wanted to encourage users to migrate to Signal, a service that prides itself on being more respectful of personal data.
